I gave this performance talk at the CCA on Thursday, a deconstruction of some of my video pieces within a spoken word framework. Bit of an experiment and took me out of my comfort zone, but worth the challenge.
Visiting Glasgow-based artist and curator Alex Hetherington had this to say:
Anne Colvin’s video, performance and spoken word lecture was dazzling. Edits: clean, precise, perfect. A sonic/visual sentence, a scholarly screen.

We spent a wonderful three weeks back in Blighty over Christmas and New Year – from London to Okehampton to Edinburgh to Newton Stewart and Glasgow for the day – visiting our family and friends. Managed to fit in some shows at The Fruitmarket Gallery, Scottish Gallery of Modern Art, The Dean Gallery, CCA, TATE Modern, Gagosian and Seventeen Gallery but my favorite experience was Martin Creed’s Work No. 1059 at the Scotsman Steps in Edinburgh. The hunddred or so steps were each made from a different piece of marble sourced from all over the world. Believe me quite a transformation, they used to be horribly dank and dingy. Historically the steps connected the medieval Old Town to the 18th century New Town and acted as a road. The magnificent building at the top of the stairs once housed the Scotsman newspaper (now a hotel).

My piece on George Kuchar for Frieze.
The past weeks have seen the unexpected force of Hurricane Irene wreak havoc along its path, leaving us meteorologically bewildered and with a newfound existential barometer.
Someone who was no stranger to tempestuous weather was George Kuchar, low-fi filmmaker extraordinaire, who passed away on 6 September after a battle with cancer. I recently spoke with him on the phone while he was in hospital receiving treatment. Despite his weakness, he rose to the occasion and we talked about his video series ‘Weather Diaries’ (1977–2011)……

I recently started a sort of virtual shop on tumblr — although it is open by appointment — Ritch named after my street. Ritch is the home of Skank Bloc Bologna, art and film ephemera and vintage paperbacks. Yet another website to manage but I do love tumblr and I like pretending I have a shop!
Check it out.
